This 3D model is part of the series “When in Free Time”, where I revisit all the pages in my old sketchbook to dig for ideas.
This time, I came across a page with a sketch of a clover plant pot. Because the clover’s shape resembled fan blades, out of the blue, I remembered a Vietnamese compound noun, “cây quạt”, which translates to “fan tree”. Based on the idea from “A Bit Odd, Innit?”, which interprets Vietnamese compound nouns, and borrowing the fan model from “Home Sweet Home”, I created this cây quạt.
Fact:
- Trees improve the air by trapping dust and smoke. Cây quạt could symbolically clean the air by spinning away impurities.
- Trees provide shade and cool the air through transpiration, therefore reducing the heat. Cây quạt mimics this by circulating breezes to beat the heat.
- Trees have positive impacts on mental and physical health. Perhaps a cây quạt could too - imagine a calming, swirling motion in your workspace!
- Another fun fact is that homes with trees often have higher market value. Maybe a quirky cây quạt sculpture or a modern ceiling fan could spice up a room’s aesthetic.
In short, it is nice to see some connections between trees and cây quạt. Who knew a sketchbook doodle could “spin” into such a fun concept?
